We Almost Never Were

November 12, 2019

I’d like to share a few photos that almost fell through the cracks, never to be seen. The timeline of the film used to create these photos is an interesting one. Some things are just meant to exist in this world, no matter how long it takes. Timeline of a Roll of Film

Here’s a step by step of the process:

  • The film had been expired for almost 20 years when I loaded it into my camera.
  • After taking these photos, the roll of film sat undeveloped in a cabinet for another 2 years.
  • After dropping the film off at the local lab, it got misplaced, and therefore I totally forgot about it. Months later, I remembered and returned to the lab just days before their 90 day “if you didn’t pick up your film, we’ll toss it” policy. They found it!
  • Ironically, the developed film then sat in my cupboard for another couple months before scanning.

And here we are. It’s kind of poetic that the three photos are a visual representation of formlessness into form, isn’t it?
