The Shimmer

I’ve been mildly obsessed with the movie Annihilation since I first saw it a couple of years ago. The grand finale scene with the alien-like avatar mirroring Natalie Portman’s every move was one of the most intense moments I’ve experienced watching a movie in a very long time. Thinking about the music during that scene makes my hair stand on end while I write this sentence.

Sometimes I really try to have a theme or concrete inspiration before I do a photo shoot, but there are many times I only piece together the inspiration after the fact. This would be an instance of the latter. While I was editing the above photo, I was just thinking, “Oh that’s a pretty cool photo with a fun lighting effect and it was nice to be creative and what time should I have dinner?” Then I suddenly thought, “The Shimmer!”

Staring at the above photos, it looks like just a matter of time before the alien presence takes over the entire bouquet of flowers. And whatever else it finds.
